Faculty Review for SY: 2013-2014

I wanted to help some students of De La Salle University-Manila, so I made this review of each of the professors that I took on this SY 2013-2014.

First of all, I would like to tell you about me. I am an ID 113, and my course at that time was AB-PLM (AB-Philosophy). My block consists of 3 courses, Philippine Mass Media, Philosophy, and History.

TERM 1:

CITIGOV: Mr. Reden Recio
Grade: 3.0

- Seeing his discussions about politics makes us made inspire more to visualize what we should do as students. I must say that he's really passionate on teaching these topics, and there's one topic that I can't really get rid on until now, which is Freedom. The way the teaches is through powerpoint. He'll not give you that ppt so you better need to take down notes. Taking pictures are prohibited. He doesn't give us any exams as far as I remember. His final exam is just a video presentation, and he's not much expecting to be that good, but the interview part should be concise and clear since it will be presented on different locations that you've been assigned to interview. He'll give bonuses like having + points on going to a certain event. He's kind and very approachable. He speaks in Filipino and English. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

FITWELL: Mr. Rizal Hofileña (as far as I remember, I only remembered the last name though)
Grade: 4.0

- The way he taught us on aerobics was really effective. He teaches very well, and he's not that strict, but sometimes when the class is noisy, even not much of a noise, he'll be mad, so better to be quite. His midterms and finals weren't really that strict to be graded. He's approachable. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

INTGLOS: Mr. Aaron Francis Chan
Grade: 2.5

- His teaching strategy made students bored especially those people who doesn't much like about Global Society like me. He just shows the powerpoint, but his powerpoint is just full of outlines on which you may or may not understand what it really is unless you listen to him, which he speaks fast (for me). He speaks English, and understands Chinese (my blockmates once tested him if he can understand Mandarin), and Filipino. His quizzes were really objective, and you need to read the book so that you can really understand what he's trying to say on a lesson. He has midterms and finals, which is exam. He's approachable He checks attendance ALWAYS.

INTSOCI: Ms. Yellowbelle Duaqui
Grade: 3.5

- "Motherly of all" as stated by my blockmates. She's very approachable, and not much strict. She enjoys teaching though, but she's not outside the box. She's requiring you to buy a book, and yes, that book will make your INTSOCI become 4.0. Also, she's giving her powerpoints. Just answer the questions there and you'll pass. She doesn't have midterm exams but have lots of quizzes, but it's easy! The finals will be video presentation of your chosen topic. She checks attendance ALWAYS.

NTROPSY: Ms. Mary Daganzo
Grade: 3.5

- Psychology topics weren't made me bored. She'll give you a book that you need to read, and that book will make you survive through the whole term! Her lessons were just based on that book, but she gives videos that might made us wonder how those things happened like that. She have many activities that will make your interest on Psychology become higher. She's giving out her powerpoints as well. She's very strict on noise and gadgets though. Her midterms have many items. The final exam will be video presentation. Ms Daganzo is very approachable. She checks attendance ALWAYS.

POLISCI: Mr. Jason Hecita
Grade: 3.0

- His teaching strategy made most of us bored because on the way he talks was really boring. Whenever he jokes, we don't seem to understand what he wanted us to say. His lessons were interesting for me since I like politics. He teaches also in English, but mostly in Filipino (especially on giving political examples), and also, (of course) based politics on Filipino society, so foreigners might not understand what he's trying to say. His quizzes were essays, and the finals will be video presentation. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

SCIENVB: Ms. Kat Luzon
Grade: 1.0

- I should say, that this is the worst professor that we encounter! She really did welcome our college! Don't ever be fooled on her topics! Why? First of all, when it comes to midterms and finals, the lesson that she taught to the class will not be much included! Second, she has favoritism on a specific class/student! At that time, she has a class also after us, and that block really suffered a lot in the end unlike us because half on that block got 0, and the rest got 1, which is their only highest, but us had grades of 0-3.5. YOU must go on HER GRADE CONSULTATION DAY because SHE'S REALLY CHANGING YOUR GRADE. YOU MUST RE-CALCULATE YOUR GRADE or ELSE YOU'LL SUFFER A LOT.
I didn't re-calculate mine because it might become 0, so I just let it become 1 and suffer this on not becoming DL. I forgot if she checks attendance.
===
TERM 2:

CRITHIN: Mr. Dante Luis Leoncini
Grade: 2.0

- A professor that you need to pay attention to. It's not really boring to listen on the lessons, but the way he speaks made many of the students bored. He'll give you handouts, but it doesn't mean that you'll successfully pass the subject. You really need to listen on his lectures since it'll be also shown on the quizzes. He'll have 3 quizzes (as far as I remember), and that will be his basis on your overall grade of this subject. He's approachable though. He DOESN'T MUCH checks attendance.

ENGLCOM-WC: Ms. Anne Torib Bobadilla

- As most of the ENGLCOM WC does, she'll always make you an essay to enhance your writing skills. Of course, before writing, she'll discuss first, and it made us understand more how to make it by giving examples and activities. She gave us daily exercise that improve our knowledge on academic words. However, the grading system is probably a question. She doesn't give back your papers, so you don't know what you 're lacking to. She's very approachable. She checks attendance ALWAYS.

ENGLCOM-RVLC: Mr. Frederick Flores

- I think Media Log is always important on ENGLCOM RVLC, so I guess I have no right to complain on the stress that he gave to us about this. He's very transparent on grading, giving your papers. seeing your grade on it, and marking your errors for you to be improved. But the way that he made us hassle is bringing laptops, and doing an activity that will be due before his class ends, for as we all know that Wi-fi can't be reliable at times. He's approachable though. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

Over-all ENGLCOM Grade: 3.5

FTDANCE: Ms. Tumale
Grade: 4.0

- The way that she teaches is really confusing. I don't know why, but I think she teaches too fast, on which we don't know at most on how we should dance it. She's very approachable, so if you don't understand a step, you can ask her and let her dance for you or you'll be her partner for a moment, and that makes her a very good teacher. She checks attendance ALWAYS.

HISTCIV: Mr. Nathan Libut
Grade: 3.0

- Isn't hassle at all. He'll let you watch movies on his class that is related on HISTCIV, and it's not really boring! The way he gives quizzes is based on his lectures and handouts (he'll give it to you). He lectures w/o any visuals, he doesn't much write on the board so you better write fast on what he says or else you'll be left! He's giving handouts a week before the quiz. This class have midterm and finals, which is written. He's approachable. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

KASPIL1: Mr. Ferdinand Santiago
Grade: 2.5

- The way he lectures was really sleepy or boring, but actually, the lessons he's giving were really interesting. He's giving you handouts and it will be your quizzes later on.
We found out later on that he had high expectations on our block since there are History majors. He's very lenient and gives high grades on other blocks, but us... Well.
He checks attendance ALWAYS.

LBYENVC / SCIENVC: Mr. Laurenzo Alba
LBYENVC Grade: 4.0 / SCIENVC Grade: 4.0

- This prof is very lenient, but when he teaches, we don't much understand what he wanted to convey since he has very many ideas that can't compile into one container. The final exam will be based on your class group's report, so it will just really be easy! There's only 1 exam, and there's a final project~~ He checks attendance ALWAYS

FILKOMU: Mr. Lakangiting Garcia
Grade: 4.0

- BEST prof ONLY on BLOCK SECTIONS. I must say, those who take him without any friends on his class will be suffered. It happened on my friend since he took FILKOMU on 3rd term, but on my case, it was really good. If your classmates weren't really bias on scoring you, then you have no problem. He's somewhat on a psychology class actually haha, but it'll worth, I swear! You can ask questions beyond on what he teach though. I forgot if he checks attendance.

NSTP-CW1: Ms. Lory De Lara
Grade: 3.5

- Boring lecturer. It's not that NSTP is really boring, but you know, repeated activities like she'll just give manila paper then do it, then next week you'll do like that again until the end of the term. I don't know if the other proctors are like that also. She has quizzes though, but it's just easy and common sense haha. She checks attendance ALWAYS.
===
TERM 3:

ENGLRES: Mr. Eduardo Bolaños
Grade: 3.5

- this is NOT an ENGSTRESS! For those who are lazy, you must take him haha! I didn't wish for that one actually, but the prof was being re-shuffled again. His lectures were ok and just based on the book.. I forgot the book, but the Writing thing book 3rd edition if I remembered that is being bought on the Br. Connon store. The one that made me disappointed is when he checks our progress, he doesn't check it thoroughly, he'll just score it based on what his mood is on that time. You can be absent, he DOESN'T MUCH check attendance.

FILDLAR: Mr. Rowell Madula
Grade: 3.0

- I don't know how to say on this prof but, he's literally OK. Okay in a sense that the other mainstream profs do: quizzes (VERY HARD, must memorize the whole handout hahaha), video and research. He lectures very well though, but I don't know, it's just after the whole term, I learned nothing. I think it's because of the FILDLAR topics. It's just full of translations that didn't add any information regarding on how to do those etc. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

FTTEAMS: Mr. Christopher Olarte
Grade: 3.5

- Volleyball is what he taught us, and it's really fun! He's very kind and he'll teach you if you can't understand it. No assignments or whatever, just what the other PE profs do: have culminating activity, activities and midterms. On the last day, you'll be the one to compute your grade. Either way, you must be good at volleyball, not 0% or as in newbie, because your grade on activities will be your grade. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

KASPIL2: Mr. Ronaldo Mactal
Grade: 4.0

- HASSLE prof AT FIRST! But you know, your grades will be high! No one got failed on our class. As far as I know, 2.0 is the lowest or 2.5. You'll learn many! I gained many facts from him and I share these infos to my family members. I don't even need to write it down, it's just it's inside of my mind! He'll make you 3 final products, and that final product will be based on your group what it is to present it on the whole class. (He'll discuss it on the first day actually). His jokes were corny at first, but I bet that you'll laugh later on because his jokes will let you know more on your classmates. He doesn't have any quizzes. Just 3 final products, but it's very hassle because he's perfectionist! He speaks Tagalog, and that made me really fun to listen to (because English lectures made me bored). He checks attendance ALWAYS, be sure that your name isn't called yet or else your .5 bonus will not be there anymore!

PERSEF1: Ms. Martinez
Grade: 3.5

- She lectures just based on the booklet.. nothing much to learn. You can just look at it on the PERSEF1 book. It's pretty obvious that she's close-minded though. She speaks English and Tagalog. She checks attendance ALWAYS.

TREDONE: Mr. Dalmacito "Mac" Cordero
Grade: 3.0

- This prof is very fun! His quizzes will be based on the handouts though. His lecture isn't also boring. He speaks English and Tagalog. Sometimes he'll let you make reflection paper before the class ends. Your grade will be based on quizzes and project (reflection and midterm video) though. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

NSTP-CW2: Ms. Alyanna Ercilla
Grade: 2.5

- This proctor isn't good. She's not lenient. Her temper was really fast! I don't know how did she graded us, since this prof didn't go anymore after the immersion starts.

Sit in for TERM 3:

MATAPRE: Mr. Ronald Florendo Llarenas

- This prof gives his ppt and exercises always. He's very fun since you can see his passion on teaching math on students! He has quizzes and final project (which is reporting I think)

INTFILO: Mr. Mansukhani

- Actually this prof is really fun to listen with! I rarely go on this subject because I need to do my ENGLRES paper, but overall, it's really fun! But he teaches in English, so sometimes it bores me.
His quizzes will only be based on what he lectures and handouts. And your grade will only be depend on the quizzes = said by my blockmate

MODESTA: Ms. Nellie Margaret Chua

- This prof is cute when I first saw her. I wasn't part of the CCS on this period of time so I didn't really know her, but my brother did. She teaches you even though you're just sit in. She gives handouts and your handouts have already exercises that will also be taught in her class. You need to listen to her very carefully since her voice is very weak. She has quizzes and final project though. But I don't know much anymore about it.

HTMLPRG: Mr. Solomon See

- (didn't manage to follow-up the venue already)

===
SUMMER:

HUMAART: Mr. Francisco Guevara
Grade: 2.5

- This prof is STRICT actually. You must know read the handout that is somewhat long. But he's not that hassle as you think. You need to have a total of 5 reports by the end of the term. He has 4 quizzes, and he's very strict on the content if you read those articles, and how many lines did you write your essay. You need to be participate in order to gain your lose points on quizzes. His final project isn't much hard. He speaks English. It's not much boring because he's sometimes makes jokes. Hmm, maybe I should say he's TERROR prof. He checks attendance ALWAYS.

===
But throughout the whole year on listening and participating on these classes, I learned something:

1. NEVER EVER leave your group! Later on you'll be shocked that your group didn't do anything! You must know ALL infos on what your group will present!

2. You should ask questions on the prof if you're curious on something. I swear! YOU MUST UTILIZE YOUR TUITION FEE!

3. You must seat in the front incase you really can't much participate on discussions. Sitting in front makes you be more attentive to the lesson actually.

4. You DON'T NEED to KNOW how hassle your prof be! It DEPENDS on you on how you will be able to handle it! Dropping of courses doesn't make sense for me! Even at first on Mr. Mactal (KASPIL2), I was scared because as I heard on the DLSU Profs to pick, he's very hassle, but look at the result!
Knowing your profs are really good because that prof might just curve your grade down, but knowing about if he's hasslem it's just based on how you play on the game itself!

That's all for now! I wish I helped you a lot here!
I am not a CLA student anymore, so yea. xD I can't helped you anymore much except on floating subjects.

See ya inside the campus!
